'Suicide Squad' Casts Jared Leto as Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, More
One of the most anticipated live-action films in the new cinematic DC Universe is the Suicide Squad film, a supervillain team-up that brings together some of the most diabolical personas in all of comics for a big redemption mission that will probably result in their deaths. Now, we know the actors who will be playing those roles, as the cast for Suicide Squad has been officially announced.
Here is the cast/character list for Suicide Squad, directed by David Ayers (End of Watch) and hitting theaters on Aug. 5, 2016:
Jared Leto – The JokerWill Smith – Deadshot
Tom Hardy – Rick Flag
Margot Robbie – Harley Quinn
Jai Courtney – Boomerang
Cara Delevingne – Enchantress
“The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one,” said Warner Bros. president Greg Silverman in a statement. “We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under David Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero.”
Overall, I'm loving this cast. I'm a bit surprised Tom Hardy is back for another DC movie so soon after The Dark Knight Rises, but the role of former soldier Rick Flag is vastly different from that of Bane. Will Smith, meanwhile, is a pretty inspired choice for Deadshot, and I can't wait to see him in the role. Jai Courtney should also make for a solid Boomerang, especially if he gets the chance to appear in the big screen version of The Flash opposite Ezra Miller, since I could easily see the two actors having great rival chemistry. I don't know a whole lot about Enchantress or Cara Delevingne, but I'm sure some enlightened commenter can clue me in. Or I could just Google both later. Whichever comes first. And as already mentioned, I couldn't possibly be more over-the-moon about Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. She's just perfect for the role.
But what do you think of the casting decisions? Sound off in the comments!
