Stevie Jo - The Voice 2014 - The Thrill Is Gone - Video

Stevie Jo sang "The Thrill Is Gone" on The Voice 2014 Season 6 Playoffs for Team Usher

Preparation

Stevie Jo talks about how both his parents were in rock bands, but he really wants to be an R&B/Soul vocalist. So, naturally, he was super excited when Usher’s chair was the one that turned around. Adam says Stevie Jo is a “badass,” and honestly, with a voice like that, it’s hard for me to argue with him.

Stevie has chosen “The Thrill Is Gone” by B.B. King, and Usher says that he has to connect with the soul of the song. He asks Stevie if he’s ever had his heart broken, and tells him to use that emotion in his performance. He sounds pretty damn great in rehearsal. Reminds me of Cole Vosbury, actually.

Coach Comments

Adam Levine: He calls Stevie Jo “ambitious,” and says that when you’re singing the blues, all technical analysis goes out the window. But he really dug the performance.
Shakira: Shakira loved his falsettos and liked when his voice got all raspy, even though he might have stretched himself a bit thin vocally on a note or two.
Usher: Usher is a fan of how courageous Stevie Jo is, and praises his willingness to go all-in on the performance, showing his emotion and connection.
Blake Shelton: Blake loves watching Stevie Jo perform, and says it’s like he’s sneaking up on a rabbit
