Stereo Kicks sings 'Boys of Summer' on The X Factor UK 2014 (VIDEO)
Stereo Kicks sang 'Boys of Summer' on The X Factor UK 2014 Live Show 2 on October 18, 2014.
Pre-performance: The boys were going to sing Elton John's "I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues", but Louis changes it to "Boys of Summer" by Don Henley, which the boys are less certain about. But Louis thinks it's actually a much better song choice for them, and I agree 100%. That said, it doesn't appear they're going to change anything about the arrangement, using what sounds like a lot of 80s-style synth backing. But this has the potential to be a great performance for them either way. I seriously don't know why they consider this a "risk".
Nick's Thoughts: This was a performance that should go a long way in solidifying their fanbase. I mean, yeah, they still have the issue they're always going to have, which is that with only 90 seconds to perform, not everyone is going to get a chance to shine. That said, I think it's smart that they've already figured out who their strongest singers are. For instance, it's better to just let James Graham do his thing while Barclay Beales offers supporting vocals. (I'm still puzzled as to how James didn't get through as a solo artist) This was an encouraging performance, as Stereo Kicks is beginning to show just the caliber of act they can be.
Judges: Mel B thought it was a great song choice and a great performance, but she wants to hear them sing a cappella one of these days. She says there are just so many of them that she doesn't really get to hear them harmonize. And she wants to hear that from them. Cheryl isn't that high on this group, saying that with a lot of boy bands, you can hear the hysteria when they come out. However, she says that outside of whatever friends or family they might have here, she just doesn't feel that hysteria for them. Simon thinks Cheryl isn't being fair, adding that the boys deserve more credit for pulling through after having their song changed on them at the last minute. He says he's starting to believe in them as a group. Louis disagrees with Cheryl and feels it's too early to be judging the reaction the boys get from the crowd. Dermot asks Cheryl if it is to early to judge their reactions or not, but Cheryl can hardly get a word in edgewise, as Simon and Louis keep saying "It is too early" on each side of the desk, trying to drown her out in a SUPREMELY obnoxious moment. Cheryl eventually explodes and says she's here to give her opinion, not be shouted at from both sides of the desk. Preach on, Chezza.
