Stephen Moyer cast in NBC's 'The Sound of Music'

Stephen Moyer is moving from Bon Temps to the rolling hills of Austria.

The True Blood star has been cast in NBC’s live holiday production of The Sound of Music.

Moyer will play the male lead of World War I hero and single father Capt. Georg Von Trapp, who is living in Austria near the start of World War II with his seven children. He eventually falls for his children's new governess, Maria (to be played by country music star Carrie Underwood).

Moyer has extensive musical experience from his days in the London theater. In addition, the actor recently appeared in a staging of Chicago at the Hollywood Bowl.

The live, three-hour production is scheduled for Dec. 5 and will be based on the original 1959 Broadway production of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical.
