The Hobbit: the Desolation of Smaug comes out this Thursday at midnight (so Friday), and now we know where to look for super fan Stephen Colbert.

Colbert arrived on the set of the Late Show With David Letterman dressed like an extra in A Christmas Carol (complete with cockney accent) to talk about his recent cameo in the film alongside his wife and sons.

"We're in a scene in Laketown. I don't wanna say what or where, it's kind of a 'Where's Waldo' [thing]" Colbert revealed, telling Dave that he and his family were invited onto the set by director Peter Jackson.

Although he was pretty sad that he didn't get cast as an elf seeing as he has one pointed ear and all.
