Daft Punk was scheduled to perform "Get Lucky" last night on The Colbert Report, but they had to cancel at the last minute due to an exclusivity deal with Comedy Central’s sister network, MTV. The latter network had been promised exclusive television rights to Daft Punk leading up to a surprise performance at the VMAs (which isn't exactly a secret anymore).
“You see, we booked Click and Clack over here about a month ago,” Colbert said on last night's show. “Well, apparently, Daft Punk are going to make a surprise appearance on the MTV Video Music Awards. Don’t tell anybody, because fun fact: No one told me until two o’clock yesterday.”
But Colbert didn't let the scheduling snafu derail the long-anticipated appearance: Robin Thicke was on-hand to perform "Blurred Lines" (the other acclaimed "song of the summer"), and Colbert was able to wrangle up an all-star ensemble for a dance party set to Daft Punk's "Get Lucky," featuring Matt Damon, Hugh Laurie, Jeff Bridges, Bryan Cranston, Jimmy Fallon, Henry Kissinger, the Rockettes, Jon Stewart via satellite, the entire production of America’s Got Talent, and many more.
