Stephen Chbosky Will Write Disney's Live-Action 'Beauty and the Beast'

Stephen Chbosky is a household name to teen lit enthusiasts as the author/screenwriter/director of The Perks of Being a Wallflower. However, he's looking to expand his notoriety beyond his most famous work by tinkering with one of the best films Disney ever made.

Chbosky has signed on to write a new draft of the script for Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast, adapted from the 1991 animated classic, which was the first animated film in history to be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar. The original draft of the script was written by Hercules scribe Evan Spiliotopoulos.

The film, to be directed by Bill Condon (Dreamgirls), will feature music from both the original film and the successful Broadway musical (which means we might finally get a big screen version of !)

Of course, now the question is whether Chbosky's involvement means we'll get some Perks of Being a Wallflower vets joining the cast. Emma Watson for Belle? Maybe?

Please?
