Starz Renews 'Black Sails' for Third Season
The news coming out of New York Comic Con 2014 remains pretty TV-oriented. In addition to the first look at Netflix's Daredevil, and Disney XD's announcement of a Guardians of the Galaxy animated series for 2015, Starz announced that it would be renewing one of its more popular original programs.
A full three months before its season two premiere, Starz confirmed that Black Sails would return for a third season.
Set 20 years before Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island, the series follows the adventures of Captain Flint (Toby Stephens) and his men, including a young John Silver (Luke Arnold). It was a bit of a foregone conclusion, as Starz CEO Chris Albrecht had hinted at a third season for the Michael Bay-produced drama, which debuted to 2.6 million Live+Same Day viewers back in January. This is currently the record for viewership among any Starz original series, and with Season 2 premiering on January 24th, 2015, the network is likely expecting big returns.
“The incredible world that Jon Steinberg and Robert Levine have created continues to unfold in Season 2,” said Carmi Zlotnik, Managing Director of Starz. “Flint’s journey is riveting, and around him, Jon and Robert have woven an intricate web of conflict, betrayal, and redemption for the other characters that we believe will keep fans of the show coming back for more.”
I only ever caught the pilot for Black Sails, but the show displayed heaps of promise. Perhaps now would be the time to get caught up on the series before Season 2 premieres. Check out a brand new trailer for the new season below:
