'Star Wars: Episode VII' Plot Details Leak, J.J. Abrams Reveals X-Wing
Plot details for Star Wars: Episode VII have reportedly leaked, and we've got a bad feeling about this.
According to Badass Digest, a blog that's been reliably connected to certain inside sources in the past, is reporting that the Star Wars sequel will open with...Luke Skywalker's severed hand?! Apparently, following the customary opening crawl setting the scene for the updated Star Wars Universe, we apparently pan up to see Luke's hand floating across the stars, complete with lightsaber. The write-up doesn't mention if it's the hand/lightsaber Luke lost in Bespin back in The Empire Strikes Back, or if he's spent the thirty years between Return of the Jedi and Episode VII getting into fights and losing hands across the galaxy. But what we do know is that this leaked plot synopsis -- which basically covers the first twenty minutes of the movie -- centers on a pair of young adventurers played by Mr. Selfridge star Daisy Ridley and Attack the Block breakout John Boyega, who discover the lightsaber, and set out to return it to its rightful owner. I'm not kidding.
Seriously, read the synopsis yourself below via Badass Digest:
Imagine the standard Star Wars crawl, and when it ends the camera pans up to the stars. But instead of a spaceship zooming into frame we see... a hand! A severed hand, tumbling through space. A severed hand gripping a light saber. That hand falls onto a desert planet, where it is discovered by characters who will be our heroes. One is Daisy Ridley. The other is John Boyega, who is playing someone trying to change his path in life (again, I'm keeping it vague here). They recognize the light saber as a Jedi relic and decide to return it to the proper people.
Their quest takes them off world, and they meet up with Han Solo and Chewbacca, who aren't flying around in the Millennium Falcon anymore but are piloting... well, that could be a spoiler. I'll leave it. Anyway, Han and Chewie recognize the light saber as Luke's, and they say they haven't seen their friend in thirty years, since the events of Return of the Jedi.
So begins a quest to find the missing Jedi Master. Meanwhile, on an ice planet, nefarious forces are building a super weapon, one capable of destroying not planets but entire solar systems...
So yeah...I'm not exactly buying this report, credible source or not. I wouldn't put it past Abrams and co. to purposely leak false intel on the film, especially at this early stage in development. And besides, I don't buy that Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie and the gang really haven't seen each other in 30 years. But maybe that's hard to believe thanks to having 30+ years of Expanded Universe material to fill in the post-Jedi gaps.
Either way, while the plot detail leak isn't 100% confirmed, what IS 100% confirmed is the presence of an X-Wing for Episode VII.
J.J. Abrams revealed the first look at the iconic starfighter as it will appear in the film. In the teaser, Abrams gets into the battle-damaged vehicle, while also offering a first glimpse at a creature from Tatooine.
The video is part of Star Wars: Force for Change, a fundraising initiative by Disney, Lucasfilm and Abrams's Bad Robot production company, all geared toward assisting UNICEF Innovation Labs and Programs in benefiting children in need. All individuals who donate at least $10 to the fundraiser will be entered for a chance to win a trip to London to visit Pinewood Studios and appear in a scene in Episode VII.
In addition, Abrams has now announced a second top prize for one lucky winner who donates the requisite $10 minimum: an advanced screening of the movie in the winner’s hometown for 20 of their friends one week before the film hits theaters on Dec. 18, 2015. And that's not all you can win either, as other incentives for donating include limited edition posters, t-shirts, an authentic lightsaber hilt, concept art and film stills from Episode VII, and the warm feeling you get from knowing you donated to a worthy cause that Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert totally support.
The fundraiser ends Friday, but you can donate by clicking HERE. And you can check out the full video of the X-Wing reveal below:
