So You Think You Can Dance - Recap - Vegas Callbacks - Choreography 01 - Videos
Our dancers who made it through the solo round of Vegas callbacks are called back for a few rounds of choreography on So You Think You Can Dance season 10.
Jade Zuberi outshines his fellow dancers on the floor in this section, really putting on a great performance attitude for hip-hop choreography. He fell into the role perfectly and set a great example for the other sweaty, tired contestants.
Not every dancer fell into the part so smoothly, though. Shanshan Qiao-Rothlisberger, despite struggling during rehearsals, shocked me and the judges with her hip-hop choreo round, since her solo piece (a traditional Mongolian dance) was about as from hip-hop as it gets. It's clear from this round that her traditional dance mastery gives her such a good sense of movement and character that she can pick up a new genre with no problem.
The hip-hop round also yielded a few unfortunate cuts, but them's the shakes. It's a competition show, and these are certainly not the most painful cuts we're going to see on this season of the show!
Here's the clip: Next up was the jazz choreography.Malece, our fantastic opener from this episode, gets dropped by her exhausted partner when the choreographer sends the dancers to audition for hours and hours. I suspect this little scene had some sound effects added! The commercial breaks showed clips from it and I was expecting her to have a broken neck based on the big "CRUNCH" as she hit the floor. Thankfully, she does get up from the fall, but unfortunately, she gets taken away by paramedics on a stretcher.
Fik-Shun, the Vegas street performer I really enjoyed from earlier in the episode, really nails his choreo, which is probably the biggest concern a street performer has in this competition. Fik-Shun's whole group actually was out of control good.
There was a big focus in this section on Jade and his, erm... much taller dance partner, Sydney. She had bad-mouthed him to the choreographer and got rightly chewed out for it, so Sydney spent a lot of their rehearsal time sulking in her room instead of dancing.
Check out the video here: Jazz choreography ended up being two days long thanks to the sheer number of auditions. No worry, tough; plenty of cuts were made.Malece Miller, and her butterfingers partner, both put on a stunning performance. You'd not have known that she'd spent the night in the hospital. Her partner Armen, however, got a stern talking to from the judges.
This little bit of drama was the focus of jazz day two, but you can watch the rest of the montage in the video below:
