After catching some heat, Saturday Night Live has hired their first black female cast member in close to a decade.
Meaning that Maya Rudolph was the last woman of color on the show since 2007.
Seriously SNL? Seriously?
A spokesperson for the sketch comedy show has confirmed to Mashable that they've hired Sasheer Zamata.
Zamata has a drama degree from the University of Virginia and has appeared on online sketch comedy shows such as College Humor and on the television series Totally Biased With Kamau Bell, Inside Amy Schumer, Hey Girl and Would You Fall For That?
Attention was first drawn to the gap in their ranks by SNL writers themselves who had a sketch in which host Kerry Washington played both Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey in a sketch poking fun at their lack of diversity.
After which they held auditions to rectify the problem.
Welcome aboard Sasheer! Now pwn Keenan Thompson by showing him how funny and talented you are.
