Smash - The Workshop - Recap

I am so pumped for another episode of such a fantastic show! And this week, it gets even better because Bernadette Peters is guest starring as Ivy's mom. She even puts on a performance of Everything Is Coming Up Roses. She's not very nice though. She's super talented but is the kind of mother who can't compliment her kid. This, coupled with the added stress of Derek and Karen, results in Ivy struggling to get ready for a workshop production. They're putting on a show for a group of investors to give them a taste of what Marilyn would be like.

Karen follows up on the opportunity given to her at the Bar Mitzvah. She goes to record a demo. It's a cover of that Colbie Caillat song that was in some commercial a million times last year. Google tells me it's called Brighter Than The Sun. It's nothing spectacular. She's sounded better on the show. But the guy in the recording booth is another person who isn't immune to Karen's Siren tendencies and is immediately captivated by her voice.

Julia and Michael are still carrying on their affair. Tom walks in on them and realizes that Julia finally slept with him. When Michael's child runs in the room, Julia has to leave in tears. I'm finding it really hard to feel sorry for her. No one is forcing you to have an affair. And no one is forcing Ellis to be such a jerk. Why is he so immature? He overhears about the affair and runs and tells Eileen. Thankfully, she remains Queen and tells him to keep his mouth shut. I kinda wanted her to throw him in front of traffic.

It's time for the performance. Ivy sounds AMAZING!! She's perfect as Marilyn. This is why I'm so surprised when Derek takes her aside to tell her she's off her game. Um, Derek, when you can put on huge heels and stand on a LEATHER couch and sing..then you can have an opinion. Unfortunately, the room may have been hot but the show wasn't. The investors don't really like it. They mull over some changes and Tom refuses to let Ivy be put on the chopping block. He offers up Michael and tells Julia with his eyes that she should say the same. Looks like they want Michael to be fired. Will they go through with it?

Ivy is just spectacular to me. I could listen to her sing Let Me Be Your Star all day.
