'Smash' Star Krysta Rodriguez Leaves 'How I Met Your Dad'

Apparently, life has gotten into the habit of imitating art, as Krysta Rodriguez has left the How I Met Your Mother spinoff, How I Met Your Dad.

Of course, this news offers an eerie parallel to Rodriguez's best known role on Smash as Ana, an actress who loses her big starring role just weeks before opening night. In How I Met Your Dad, Rodriguez was set to play Juliet, the "sexy, flamboyant" best friend to series lead Sally (Greta Gerwig). It's not known why Rodriguez left, or even if it was her decision or the decision of showrunners Carter Bays and Craig Thomas. Reportedly, the character went through several changes after the initial table read with the cast, so something must not have been working.

Naturally, this is another downer for Rodriguez fans like myself. In fact, indulge me in a bit of melodrama as I recount how this is like hearing Smash was canceled all over again. For truly, there is no greater tale of woe than that of the cancellation of a show with a soundtrack as good as Hit List and Bombshell.
