'Smash' Star Krysta Rodriguez Joins 'How I Met Your Dad'

Krysta Rodriguez is staying in television, this time moving from drama to comedy.

A former star of NBC's Smash, Rodriguez has joined the cast of How I Met Your Dad, the upcoming spinoff to the hit CBS series How I Met Your Mother, which ends its nine season run on March 31.

Rodriguez will play the role of Juliet, best friend of Sally (series lead Greta Gerwig). Juliet is "a sexy and flamboyant party girl force of nature, who runs the most successful fashion blog in the country," which I suppose makes her this show's Barney Stinson, although the character description doesn't mention anything about ambitious sexual promiscuity. But she does have Stinson's "hey, our gender has to look out for itself!" sensibility (i.e., Stinson's "bro" ideology), as Rodriguez's character is apparently stoked that Sally is getting her life back on track by leaving her husband of just one year.

Rodriguez joins a cast that already includes Gerwig and Newsreaders alum Drew Tarver. The show is looking to make its way onto the schedule for the 2014-2015 broadcast season on CBS.

Rodriguez should be great in the role. Seriously, loved her on Smash. The woman is insanely talented. I also desperately miss Smash. That needs to be tossed out there as often as possible.
