'Smash' Musical 'Bombshell' Headed to Broadway for One Night Only

Smash wanted you to let Marilyn Monroe be your star! And now, Broadway wants you to as well.

Bombshell, the Broadway show-within-a-show of NBC's dearly departed Smash, is getting a one night only run on Broadway. The Actors Fund has confirmed that Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the producers behind both the Oscars and NBC's live holiday musical productions such as The Sound of Music Live! and Peter Pan Live!, will produce a benefit performance of the musical centered on the life of Marilyn Monroe. The performance will bow on June 15, 2015.

No word on casting yet, although Playbill says that Megan Hilty, who played Marilyn Monroe in the show's version of the musical (and ended up winning a Tony for it!) will be a part of this show, which will include all 22 songs.

This marks the second time a Smash musical has been staged in the New York theater world, as the season 2 show-within-a-show, Hit List, was staged at 54 Below just last year. Both musicals are pretty fantastic, and have given birth to songs I still listen to (CONSTANTLY! You don't even KNOW), so to say I'm stoked for this and that I'm going to go out of my way to see it, is an understatement. Possibly the biggest understatement of the year, for me.

Tickets go on sale in early 2015, so keep it locked on ActorsFund.org for updates.
