'Smash' finale gets two-hour finale on new night and time

Though NBC had hopes that the new season of Smash would help anchor the beleaguered network's primetime lineup, the February premiere of the show's second season bombed, and things only got worse from there. After the show fell below a million viewers, NBC made the decision to banish the Broadway drama to Saturday nights. Now, only a month after that decision, NBC has chosen to move the show to a new night and time for what is almost certainly its series finale.

The two-hour finale of Smash will air on Sunday, May 26 from 9:00-11:00 PM ET. Showrunner Josh Safran recently told TVLine that the finale was constructed to be a series finale, wrapping up the show's major storylines and leaving no loose ends.

Last Saturday night's episode titled 'Opening Night' tied its series low with a 0.4 adults in the 18-49 demographic, placing even with the April 13th broadcast. From a week to week standpoint, however, the show was up four percent in total viewers. Not that this is necessarily going to save the show, but hey, silver linings.
