Sleepy Hollow - Episode 6 - Recap - Sin Eaters

FOX brings Sleepy Hollow's brief haitus to an end this week, and the show is still excellent! If you haven't started yet, get outta town what are you doing go and go now please. If you have, then you know this show is clever, fun, and exciting, three qualities that most shows don't manage ever, let alone at such a young age.

Ichabod and Abbie are at a baseball game. Ichabod doesn't understand anything about bit, so Abbie explains with some metaphors about America. The two part ways, Ichabod preferring some time to himself to wander. He visits his wife's grave, and is shot by a knockout dart! Oh no! Crane wakes up at a table across from a dude in a suit. Using his Sherlock-esque powers of deduction, Ichabod determines these men are Freemasons, as he is. During their little interview, we see Ichabod meeting his wife Katrina through flashback. She'd been a servant while Ichabod was still a Redcoat. A prisoner named Arthur Bernard that him and his buds viciously interrogated started talking about magic and nonsense. Katrina did the same, and finds out about how Ichabod is a witness (he saw that demon). It turns out the Redcoats are working with demons, so Ichabod betrays them and lets the prisoner go. Cool/weird origin story, yay!

Abbie's drive home from the baseball game is interrupted by a terrible dream. Ichabod's wife Katrina made the dream. It's real creepy, with burlap dolls and a Headless Horseman and everything. Abbie's got to find something called a sin eater in order to rescue Ichabod, but before she learns what that means, she wakes up in oncoming traffic. She swerves and avoids the crash, but the vision has left her perturbed. She comes clean to her boss, Captain Orlando Jones, about all the fake-sounding magic stuff, and he's surprisingly not shocked. Sure, he puts on a grimace and doesn't really believe her that much, but he helps. Abbie goes to get her badass institutionalized lil sister Jenny to help find this sin eater thing. Their research gets them the name of a weirdo magic dude who Abbie thinks can break the curse. He says maybe he can, but first they've got to get Ichabod. He is the sin eater. Sin Eater guy gives them a clue, and the sisters head out.

Abbie and Ichabod are reunited in the Mason hideout. Ichabod catches Abbie up on the Freemason plan: Ichabod is convinced he has to die in order to destroy the Horseman. Their blood is all connected or whatever, so it's some Harry Potter thing where if either of them dies, so does the other one. We know it's serious when Ichabod calls his new futuretimes pal by her given name, Abbie, for the first time since the show began. Right after Ichabod drinks the jar of poison, the sin eater shows up to purge Ichabod of all sins. Next time Ichabod opens his eyes, the murdered prisoner Arthur Bernard is there to lead Ichabod through the sanctifying prayer. Then, Ichabod is fine! Hooray!

The episode's last little teaser has Headless Horseman finding Ichabod's witch grave where he rose from the dead in the pilot. That doesn't bode well... I'm so glad this show is back! That little two week break was too much. And they missed Halloween! Boo on you, FOX, booooo! Anyway, I enjoyed this episode a lot. Sleepy Hollow continues to impress, and I'm looking forward to seeing how they wrap up the season! Check out the preview below.
