Sleepy Hollow - Episode 3 - Recap - For the Triumph of Evil

FOX's delightful new action fantasy series Sleepy Hollow is back for a third round! Time-displaced Ichabod Crane and regular-time cop Abbie Mills must stop the forces of Hell from bringing about the Apocalypse, following clues left by an ancient coven of witches and dodging monsters sent by the Headless Horseman.

Abbie has a nightmare about a bad devil monster! In the dream, young girl Abbie is being interrogated for some crimes, and real adult Abbie doesn't notice it's a dream. There's a creepy doctor, and Ichabod's eyes are pure white. Abbie is awoken by her phone, which calls her to a suicicde standoff. The potential jumper is the doctor from Abbie's dream, Dr. Vega! She's got white eyes, and she talks about Abbie's sister, Jenny. Dr. Vega says she "has it coming" and jumps. The body's eyes pop into sand when they investigate it, prompting... adventure mystery hour!

Ichabod and Abbie do some research, and confirm that Dr. Vega was Jenny's doctor (big surprise!), so they go to visit Jenny. Jenny lives in the crazy house, because her and Abbie saw The Devil when they were younger. She refuses to see Abbie, so Ichabod goes and has a chat. He tells Jenny about how Abbie totally saw The Devil also, and that Dr. Vega also believed her. Jenny is skeptical, and Ichabod leaves. Abbie tells the whole story, about how her and Jenny saw The Devil in the woods, then fell asleep for four days. A guy found them when they awoke, and he also saw The Devil. Like Abbie and Dr. Vega, he never told anyone. Are you detecting a pattern here? I am detecting a pattern here.

Our dynamic duo races off to find the guy who also saw The Devil. Turns out the place is already chock-full-o cops! Abbie goes in, because she's a cop. Ichabod goes in because he apparently is allowed to go wherever he wants completely unrestricted. Abbie finds the guy inside. He has a gun and pure white eyes. Spooky faceless Sandman goes by in the background, which is cool. Anyway, crazy dude tells Abbie that Sandman is coming for her, the next time they go to sleep. The crew (uh, pair) head back to their ghost library to research monsters, discovering their Sandman is a demon from Mohawk legend. Abbie says she knows a guy, and they're off.

They arrive at a, uh... wildly racist car dealership?? The sign is a big tomahawk, uh... chopping prices in half... Yeah. So. Anyway! Abbie and Ichabod eventually convince the guy who runs the dealership to help them beat this Sandman, which is odd because he's just some car dealer guy. He feeds them some blue tea, then ties them to a table and makes scorpions sting them! Pure shenanigans! What even is the deal?? In the lucid dream, Abbie and Ichabod fight the Sandman, and Abbie beats him by just telling the truth about when she saw The Devil! Abbie goes to give Jenny the good news, but Jenny has escaped!!

This show continues to astound! I'm a big fan of everything they're selling me. The injection of police procedural convention into the standard modern fantasy action show is superb. I'm excited for next week! Be right here! Do it! Video preview below!
