Sleepy Hollow - Episode 2 - Recap - Blood Moon
Sleepy Hollow - Episode 2 - Recap - Blood Moon
FOX's new paranormal police procedural Sleepy Hollow is back for another go 'round! I loved the pilot for this show, so I'm pumped to see what happens for the rest of the season. Ichabod Crane continues being confused about what technology is, Police Chief Orlando Jones (I could look up the character's name, but this is funnier for me okay?) doesn't believe Abbie Mills about her magic nonsense, and all manner of devilish brute is haunting the quiet hamlet of Sleepy Hollow! Read on. Do it!
To start the episode, a dream sequence! Ichabod Crane is chased by the Four Horsemen, among them our headless pal (Death, for those keeping score at home). Vines and roots grab Ichabod and pull him down under the ground. There, Katrina, his dead wife, warns him of "one of us" rising with the blood moon. Ichabod awakens in a hotel room, with all the modern technology labeled to avoid confusing him. He's not allowed to leave, so he frightens himself with the shower and the coffee maker and the TV. Ichabod is having a lot of trouble adjusting to the modern world, and not just with the hotel room gadgets. He's also got plenty of outrage at inflation and higher taxes rates. Also, not aware guns can shoot more than one bullet without reloading. The fish out of water aspect of this show is really great. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Abbie Mills is back at police headquarters, fighting with her superior about the supernatural events of the previous episode. The other officers withdrew their statements (duh, obviously) and the video camera footage of guest star John Cho's death last episode also disagrees with her story. She's on thin ice here!
Back at the morgue, guest star John Cho's dead body awakens! His head flips back upright as The Devil gives him a mission in gibberish and makes him vomit a medallion. Zombie Cho accepts, of course. When Satan brings you back to life, you probably wanna do what he says. Later, back in uniform, he (Cho, not The Devil) pulls over a speeding motorist to ask his full name and then deliver a creepy and ominous warning. The motorist is killed when a gross lady monster jumps on his car and burns him to ashes. Later, Zombie Cop finds a boy on the street and asks for his full name also. Another ominous warning and he's off. The boy goes to sleep that night, but he's woken by a creepy cat and some noise downstairs. Suddenly, witch monster lady! She seems about to attack the boy when Ichabod and abbie burst in! the witch lady leaves, taking the urn of the boy's father. She needs ashes of the bloodline who killed her! Clever, clever. Once the time comes, poor Zombie Cop ends up having to dig for the witch's bones. Bummer for him. I'm hoping he'll get to keep guest starring throughout the season!
Ichabod and Abbie meet up at his hotel and head off to the sheriff's funeral. After this, they're summoned to the site of a burnt out car. Ichabod recognizes the handiwork of... I dunno, some kinda witch lady he saw in the Revolutionary War? He seems pretty sure it is the same lady, since the warning Katrina gave said it would be a witch during the blood moon and also it was a blood moon way back when. Stands to reason. After this, police headquarters time. Abbie discovers the murdered sheriff's witch and devil notes are missing, and Ichabod smashes open a wall that leads to a witch mass grave. I... huh. Weird how he knows where this is. They get to a big dusty file room after that, where they find Dead Sheriff Corbin's notes. Those notes detail the witch's plan. As she burnt at the stake, she shouted a curse on her murderer's bloodline. She'll be hunting a few people descended from the one who killed her. She'll also need her bones, buried in the mass grave mentioned before. Anyway, the witch succeeds. Ichabod and Abbie manage to explode her with some barrels of gunpowder, though, so it's fine. No big deal, blowin' up witches like cool dudes.
In the aftermath, Abbie finds herself face to face with Dead Sherrif, who (like any good dead guy on this show) speaks in cryptic message exclusively: "Don't be afraid of number 49. That's where you'll find you're not alone." And then of course we find out immediately that Abbie's sister is kept in room 49 of the mental hospital, where she does push-ups and chin-ups and won't take her pills and also sees The Devil sometimes. She's a badass Sarah Connor and I'm excited to see her join the show properly! This show is amazing so far. I really liked the pilot, and this episode follows up nicely! This is one I'll be anticipating each week. You'd better check back here for my recaps! Right now though, preview video!
