Sleepy Hollow - Episode 13 - Recap - Bad Blood

This episode is the final one of the stellar first season for FOX's Sleepy Hollow. It's a good one, and this recap is of course full of spoilers. There's a big, shocking twist, so don't read this if you plan to watch the episode, since me telling you about the surprises is not as good as you watching the show. Anyway, read on and join the convo in the comments!

Ichabod somehow comes across a war re-enactment, coincidentally for the war in which he actually fought. He thinks it a dream at first, but haha nope! He does buy some new clothes there (identical to his previous outfit), but heads back to the cabin when he gets a call from Henry Parrish. Henry has had a bad dream, a dream Abbie and Jenny recognize. There's a second Horseman and Moloch raising an army. Typical bad stuff. And on this, the thirteenth anniversary of their first encounter with Moloch, an eclipse will herald the arrival of the Apocalypse! Ichabod reveals his ruse with the map, and the second Horseman can apparently be stopped just by Katrina. So, off the heroes go to Purgatory, Katrina as their target.

Meanwhile, Jenny's still on the land of the living, researching dead Sheriff Corbin's tapes and stuff. She is trying to find out the meaning of one of Moloch's prophecies, and just when she figures it out, the Headless Horseman attacks, flipping her SUV and hurting her something vicious.

Abbie awakens in the dead Sheriff's cabin, a bump on her head and no idea what's going on. Andy Brooks (recurring guest star John Cho) and her dead pal Sheriff Corbin (Clancy Brown) show up to comfort her, telling her she's been knocked out during a training exercise. Oh geez. Purgatory! She's about to eat some pie when she remembers, and the escape shows her the deaths of her friends again. Oof. This stuff is prime emotions.

Ichabod's Purgatory dream changes history, with Ichabod never betraying his country and his father celebrating the British victory over the rebellious colonies. He's been awarded professorships, and there's a party in his honor (well, his honour, really). Luckily, he remembers before imbibing the wine, leaving his estranged father behind and escaping the temptation.

Having seen through the illusions, Ichabod and Abbie awaken and find one another in a night-time field full of weird monsters. They confirm the trueness of themselves with a fist bump, very cute! Then, they find Katrina and beg her to come escape with them. She says she cannot go until she is forgiven, unless... Unless someone takes her place! Boom, betrayal time! Except not. Ichabod insists that Abbie not do this, but Abbie insists. Katrina places the amulet that protected her around Abbie's neck and then leaves with Ichabod.

Katrina wakes up, feeling reality for the first time in over 200 years. Ichabod catches up Henry, and introduces his wife. The eclipse is nearly complete, but Katrina can't find the second Horseman's body. It is there, Parrish assures her, and then all is revealed. Henry Parrish, the Sin Eater and faithful associate, is actually a servant of Moloch, and the second Horseman of the Apocalypse! Ahhh! Noooooo! Even worse, Henry Parrish is actually, in secret Jeremy Crane. Holy... What!! WHAT. Ichabod and Katrina's own lost son is a Horseman of the Apocalypse! Abbie, stuck in purgatory, finds a stolen memory of this Horseman's awakening. Moloch stole her and Jenny's memories to prevent them from knowing about this big plot twist. The info Jenny found was a sign from St. Henry's Parish, the first place Jeremy Crane saw upon his revival, from which he took his new name. The episode ends with Abbie stuck in Purgatory, Jenny dead or dying in a car wreck, Katrina in the hands of Moloch's army, and Ichabod buried in his son's grave.

Geeeeez! It did exactly what I didn't want and ended on a huge cliffhanger! Like, the biggest cliffhanger! Captain Irving didn't even show up in this episode because he's busy being in jail. Really, there's a whole dang team of cliffhangers. I'm so upset that I have to wait nine(ish) months for new episodes! UGH WHATEVER, LOOK AT THE PREVIEW AGAIN WHILE I GO CRY ABOUT THE WAIT.
