Slash & Burn
(Here’s the performance show recap from Howard!)
American Idol Season 8, Top 4 Performances
Once again, I will be watching the show with my niece and nephew, ages 8 & 10. They have such a visceral response to the show, it is truly eye-opening. Here they also have hi-def television, so there isn't much hiding on the screen.
Tonight is Rock Night, and the mentor will be Guns 'N Roses guitarist Slash. He has been blogging a bit, with some really nice things to say about the Idols. He could do a great job, bringing some real experience to the stage. The producers, however, still seem more prepared to cater to the judges than the actual 'contest' or the contestants, and they will sing one song each, then toss in a duet, rather than giving the kids more screen time.
Apparently, there was chaos during the dress rehearsal, from the stage manager rushed to the hospital. And the stage was falling apart.
Starts with a recap of Adam in the bottom 3, with nary a mention of Matt going home. And then Ryan recaps the mishaps, and gives 'the show must go on' theory. Two phone numbers per contestant once again. They come out, and it appears Danny is the only one Leather-free.
Ahhhh, Slash has a solo album coming out, that's why he is there.
Adam Lambert (866) 436-5701 or 5705 - Whole Lotta Love - Led Zeppelin
Adam is killing the song, in a good way. That was incredible. I would so buy this CD. Simply amazing. The crowd went wild. The judges loved it, Kara calls him a 'Rock God' and Simon doubts anyone can top it. My nephew enjoyed it, but my niece drifted off to watch Sponge Bob.
Allison Iraheta (866) 436-5702 or 5706 - Cry Baby - Janis Joplin
Wow, not one of my favorite performances, but it is good, just not as good as I thought it would be. The judges complain about the song choice, and Simon basically goads her into speaking up. Rock lost my young audience, and I am now watching alone.
Danny Gokey & Kris Allen - Renegade - Styx
The first duet of the night. And it isn't great. I don't know what to say. The harmonies were the best part, but neither seemed on top of their game, or in a safe zone.
Kris Allen (866) 436-5703 or 5707 - Come Together - The Beatles
Starts off sounding great. I really enjoyed it a great deal. I was surprised how good it was. Apparently, I liked it better than Simon or Kara.
Danny Gokey (866) 436-5704 or 5708 - Dream On - Aerosmith
Very strange. He is dropping in 2 or 3 different voices. The scream at the end, that just didn't work for me. They said it wasn't his song, but he gets strong marks for effort. Sadly, Kris didn't apparently try that hard...
Adam Lambert & Allison Iraheta - Slow Ride - Foghat
Sounding good, but I thought it would be exceptional.
Recap - Wow, they put the scream on the recap for Danny. That was mean. Adam and Allison sounded great, and Kris alright, since it wasn't the strongest part of his performance. The kids watched the recap and want to vote for Kris. And Adam will get some votes, as well as Allison.
Voting for Kris:
