Simon Cowell's 'X Factor' Parody Musical to Close After Six Weeks
It's been a mixed 2014 for Simon Cowell, particularly where The X Factor is concerned.
In February, it was announced that Simon Cowell would be returning to The X Factor UK. However, that same month, FOX officially canceled The X Factor USA after three seasons, and Cowell's own last-ditch effort to move the show to NBC. And it's only gotten rougher from there, as now we've got word that his latest X Factor-related venture has fallen by the wayside.
Just one month after opening on London’s West End, Simon Cowell's X Factor parody show I Can’t Sing! The X Factor Musical is closing. Opening at the London Palladium on March 26 following three weeks of previews, the show was a bomb for Cowell’s Syco Entertainment and Stage Entertainment, which produced the show. The final performance of I Can’t Sing will bow on May 10, bringing the musical to an end after six weeks.
“We are sad to be bringing I Can’t Sing! to a close but are immensely proud to have co-produced the show. The West End can be an unpredictable place as the closure of a number of high profile productions recently has shown. I Can’t Sing! has had audiences on their feet night after night, four and five star reviews from the critics and an amazing company and creative team, but it seems that isn’t always enough,” said Stage Entertainment UK CEO Rebecca Quigley.
The musical was written by British comedian Harry Hill with music and lyrics by Steve Brown. The show also had a noted TV personality among its cast, Downton Abbey star Nigel Harman. Since the majority of us will never get to see the show, check out a look at the soon-to-be-departed musical below:
