Simon Cowell explains what The X Factor is - I'm beyond excited

Simon Cowell taped a featurette explaining what his upcoming show The X Factor is.

In a nutshell, it's a singing competition with a twist:

1. Open to anyone at any age (12 and above)
2. Four categories: Young guys, young girls, older singers and singing groups
3. Mentored by a judge when they make the finals - contestants and judges "compete"
4. Auditions in front of 3,000 people!

Auditions will be held in Miami, New York, Seattle, Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago

Simon said he likes that old people going for their last shot are competing against 16 year olds. Personally, I'm just looking forward to the return of the boy bands -- and of course DRAMA, DRAMA, DRAMA!

This video also confirms that there will be FOUR JUDGES on the show since there are four singing categories.

The X Factor is coming Fall 2011 to FOX.
