Showtime Renews 'Homeland' and 'The Affair'

Showtime is sticking with what works.

The network has renewed its flagship show, Homeland, for a fifth season. In addition, they've also renewed one of their hottest new dramas, The Affair.

Homeland has had a hard reboot for Season 4, getting Carrie (Claire Danes) out of the United States to fight terrorism overseas, and it's largely helped the show get back on its feet. The series adds as many as 4.5 million viewers from DVR numbers, along with the solid ratings it earns for initial airings. As for The Affair, the show is a critical success that is generating strong word of mouth for Showtime. If that buzz can translate to Emmy nominations in a year's time, then it's easy to imagine The Affair will be around for years to come, since it's hard for just about anything not called The Borgias to get canceled on Showtime. Ah well, whatever keeps Joshua Jackson and Dominic West on my TV screen. Love those guys.
