Shia LaBeouf Seeks Treatment for Alcohol Abuse
Just one week after being removed from a Broadway performance of Cabaret in handcuffs and tears, Shia LaBeouf has decided to seek voluntary treatment for alcohol abuse.
Long story short: Last Thursday, June 26, LaBeouf was handcuffed and escorted out of a performance of Cabaret in Manhattan’s Studio 54 after he allegedly shouting at the actors and smoking. He was arrested for disorderly conduct and criminal trespass, although he was released from jail the next day. In the aftermath of the incident, photographers captured LaBeouf carrying Alcoholics Anonymous pamphlets, prompting his publicist to release a statement on the actor's well-being:
"Contrary to previous erroneous reports, Shia LaBeouf has not checked into a rehabilitation facility but he is voluntarily receiving treatment for alcohol addiction."
The statement continues, "He understands that these recent actions are a symptom of a larger health problem and he has taken the first of many necessary steps towards recovery."
If nothing else, this explains his perplexing public behavior and questionable, anti-celebrity antics over the past several months. However, this is all distressing given how relatively well-adjusted the actor once seemed. We wish Shia the best in his recovery, and hope he can get back on his feet.
