Sherri Shepherd to gays: 'You're going to hell and I love you' - Video

It looks like someone sent out a memo that it's open season to attack gays in public then act like nothing's wrong with that because it's supposedly free speech. Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson, The Bachelor's Juan Pablo Galavis and Sherri Shepherd from The View have all attacked gays in recent days seemingly unaware of their own bigotry.

Sherri Shepherd in an interview with Fusion said that "gays are going to hell" and in the same breathe said that people were judging her unfairly for her comments. Her explanation didn't really help, repeating the often used defense of "loving the sinner but hating the sin".

I think that someone needs to tell Sherri that it's easy to tear down her defense of her bigotry if we just put her in the shoes of those she's attacking.

If I grew up in a religion the taught that black women are going to hell (that religion still exists sadly) then told that to Sherri expecting her to be understanding of my position and not get offended, her mind will probably explode.

Her words:

"I think people don't know my heart. I think people feel I'm very judgmental. I think people feel I'm very homophobic. If they knew me, and knew my heart. ... You grow up being a Christian and you grow up believing homosexuality is a sin; you're going to hell if you're a homosexual. This is something that they teach in churches. So it's something that I grew up believing."

"I might not agree with your lifestyle, but I love you. You may not agree with my lifestyle, but you love me ... I don't say it's a choice. If you tell me, 'Sherri, I was born gay.' OK. I'm not gonna argue with you, because I can't tell you how you feel and what's going on inside. I'm trying to make it into heaven by the skin of my teeth ... I don't know who I'm gonna see. So if you tell me you're born [gay], I'm not gonna argue with you. And I absolutely respect you for that. I just ask that people respect how I feel, [I] respect how you feel and we can have a great dialogue."
