'Sharknado' sequel gets title
Credit: Syfy
The first Sharknado has come and gone, with the Syfy original movie causing an explosion of activity on Twitter - not only from the salacious, campy nature of the film itself, but from Syfy's announcement that they would be taking sequel title suggestions from fans over the social networking service.
Several weeks have passed and the contest has ended, with Syfy selecting a title for the sequel to the pop culture phenomenon. The winning title?
Entertainment Weekly has revealed that Syfy has chosen a name as straightforward as a title of an episode of Friends:
Sharknado 2: The Second One.
“Since Twitter played such a huge role in the success of the original movie, we wanted to use that platform to ask our fans to name Sharknado 2,” says Thomas Vitale, Executive Vice President of Programming at Syfy. “This response is another reminder of how Sharknado has become a pop culture phenomenon. We want to thank all our viewers for their wonderful contributions to keeping up the shark-mentum.”
The title beat out more than 5,000 other submissions on Twitter.
Sharknado 2: The Second One will arrive in July 2014.
