'Shadowhunters' Casts Simon + Isabelle as Creator Cassandra Clare Defends Minority Casting
The Mortal Instruments young adult fantasy series by Cassandra Clare may have been a box office flop, but it's getting new life as a television series called Shadowhunters on ABC Family.
Unfortunately, it's already causing drama as some fans are strangely upset that two white characters -- Simon (Alberto Rosende) and Isabelle (Emeraude Toubia) -- have been cast with Latino actors. OH NOES!

For reference, there were no complaints about the casting of Dominic Sherwood as Jace.
Clare herself took to Twitter to defend the decision, responding to the racist questions she was getting, retweeting a handful of worrying ones and owning the commentary with her own thoughtful responses.
