Fans of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's comic series Preacher have been waiting years for a screen adaptation to surface. After the HBO adaptation fell through following four long years of delays, Preacher became a big screen prospect, with director DJ Caruso (Disturbia) attached. Yet while the film adaptation has not been officially cancelled, rumors are already swirling of a new small screen adaptation.
AMC is reportedly developing the series for television, going as far as to give the series a pilot order.
Initial rumors of a big name being attached to the series seem to be panning out, as Seth Rogen tweeted his excitement about the mystery project, referencing characters from the cult classic comic series:
"Looks like about seven of years of hard work are about to pay off. I may get to bring one of my favourite stories ever to life....Arseface. John Wayne, The Saint of Killers." Well with teasing like that, an official announcement seems imminent. The original story follows below.
Preacher tells the story of a Texas preacher possessed by a supernatural being created by the union of an angel and a demon. In his journey across America to find God and hold him accountable, The Preacher teams with an ex-girlfriend and an Irish vampire (just roll with it). The network has not confirmed the news, but the series would be a fit with existing western Hell on Wheels, and comic adaptation The Walking Dead.
