It's official: Seth Meyers will be taking over for Jimmy Fallon.

With the recent announcement that Fallon would be taking over The Tonight Show spot from Jay Leno, a vacancy was left for the 12:35 AM ET timeslot. Months of rumors have culminated in the official confirmation that SNL cast member Seth Meyers will be taking over Fallon's spot.

"We think Seth is one of the brightest, most insightful comedy writers and performers of his generation. His years at SNL's Weekend Update desk, not to mention being head writer of the show for many seasons, helped him hone a topical brand of comedy that is perfect for the Late Night franchise," said NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt in a statement announcing the news.

Added Meyers of the new gig: "I only have to work for Lorne for five more years before I pay him back for the time I totaled his car. 12:30 on NBC has long been incredible real estate. I hope I can do it justice."

Rumor has it that Meyers would adopt a format more akin to SNL's Weekend Update, which Meyers currently hosts, centered more on political figures and major newsmakers than celebrities. It remains to be seen what format Late Night With Seth Meyers will adopt, but it's clear that NBC is restructuring its key late-night strategy, moving forward.
