As some of you may know, I have lived with a few challenges in my life. I am just about to celebrate a very special 2nd anniversary. I am excited to tell you about this anniversary and what it means to me as well as a bit about my new release "View from Above" and the inspiration behind the title track. "View from Above" is about the hardships we endure for the sake of what we hope to experience at the end of the tunnel, especially when we cannot even see the glimmer of light drawing us there.
Two years ago on August 22, 2007, I had a kidney transplant. At the time, I had been dealing with undiagnosed low kidney function for two years, not knowing what the outcome would be. May of 2005, I was ready to graduate from Arizona State University with my degree in Piano Performance when I learned of this problem. I was 19 years old at the time. The next few weeks were filled with excitement and dread alike: I was honored as a Marshall scholar, Fulbright scholar to the UK (some say the most competitive international award), USAToday All-USA Academic First Team (top 20 undergraduates across the US), and the Outstanding Graduate of the College of Fine Arts, giving the commencement address to my graduating class. At the same time, I was dealing with the overwhelming news of my kidney failure, wondering why I had to be dealing with this as a teenager.
