As hot as France's Camille Muffatt has been, people were starting to doubt Schmitt's chances in this race.  She quickly proved the doubters wrong by pulling out to a full body length lead over the field, and cruising to an Olympic Record time and a gold medal win.  Teen phenom Missy Franklin just missed her third medal of the games by finishing fourth, just .01 behind the bronze medal position.

Way to go team USA!
