Scandal - Season 3 Episode 9 - Recap - YOLO
ABC has for us here the first part of the mid-season finale to their hit political drama Scandal. Everything's going nuts! Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) thought her mom was dead but she is still alive and Quinn is about to be tortured and James cheated on Cyrus and the President shot down planes and just calm down, Scandal, please, you have our attention already!
Huck (Guillermo Diaz) is torturing Quinn to find out what she's been up to. Ugh! He's got her all tied up, ready to pull some teeth when Olivia calls him up to ask what to do about her suddenly alive mom. Everybody meets at the safe house (except Quinn, obviously) and they learn the story so far. Then they gruesomely cut out a GPS chip thing from Olivia's mom's neck. It's real gross and I do not like it. B-613 is all over looking for their runaway, so far without luck. In the quiet, Mom and Liv get to share breakfast, and Mama Pope is disappointed that her daughter has turned out so much like dear old dad. Anyway, the team is trying to get her out of the country, but she's on a no-fly list. Not even any of their contacts from the recurring characters list can help with this one! They manage to smuggle her out on a jet, which seems way too easy, but then: TWIST ENDING (see below)
Back at the torture house, Quinn's repeated efforts to escape are to no avail. Huck takes at least two teeth. He promised not to kill her to take her fingers and toes, but that isn't much consolation. Since Huck is away helping Olivia all night, Charlie rescues Quinn without much interference. She showers and gets fed some vodka, and then... they have sex?? UH. OKAY I GUESS THAT'S COOL?? There's a twist ending after the sex part too! (again, hang on until below)
Cyrus's marriage is pretty rocky, what with his husband James banging the VP's closeted husband (guest star Jack Coleman) last episode. Cyrus knows, and James knows that Cyrus knows, because Cyrus set it all up. James is basically torturing Cy by hinting about the adultery without admitting to it. Then, VP's secret gay husband basically threatens James that he can't out him. Cyrus finally confronts James and it all blows up. James wants a divorce and full custody, Cyrus has incriminating photos. Sheeeesh! (this plot and the next share a twist ending, which will be... below)
Vice President Langston's new campaign manager is making her change her stance on abortion or he won't do the job. He's... kinda weird about it. I mean, obviously all of Langston's views are abominable, but the campaign guy is so adamant that I'm suspicious. She agrees to go through with it anyway. Langston later finally brings her Presidential intentions to the attention of the, erm... President. He does not react well, and so Cyrus brings the photos to her. She still says she won't back down. Dang, this lady is for real!
Okay. Okay so this episode has so many twist endings that they all get their own section.- Olivia's mom is actually maybe a terrorist!
- Quinn has pulled some kind of triple or perhaps quadruple backstab and it seems she's going to capture Olivia's dad, Eli, the commander of B-613!
- Sally Langston has stabbed her husband to death.
