Scandal - Season 3 Episode 8 - Recap - Vermont Is For Lovers, Too

ABC's Scandal is following up on all last week's plots pretty directly, even repeating Eli Pope's entrance to his wife's secret jail. Scandals upon scandals this week! Read through and see if you can count them all, then let me know your total in the comments.

Pop Pope arranges for Mom Pope to be moved from her current jail to someplace out of the country. In a scene so gross that I could not watch it, Mama Pope tears her wrists open with her teeth in an apparent suicide attempt. Her doctor is amazed she was able to manage to get so many chomps in without passing out and wow I cannot write this without feeling like I'm gonna barf all over. Anyway, Mama Pope escapes right before the transfer, and the episode ends with that classic "Hello main character" and then the turn around and the response, "...Mom??"

As part of the ongoing campaign of VP sabotage, Cyrus gets his young husband James to woo the VP's secretly super gay husband. Of course, the ace reporter doesn't know this is the plan. Cyrus pushes and pushes, getting James to set up an intimate home interview while VP Langston is out of town. The drunk Vice First Man (??) smooches James's face, then says he heard from Mellie that Cyrus and James had an open marriage. That's when it all clicks for James and he realizes he's been played. James comes home terse, and Cyrus receives spy pictures on his phone of the supposedly straight Mr. Langston in some compromising positions with his husband.

The Josie Marcus team (including Olivia and her squad) goes into crisis mode when the Presidential-hopeful congresswoman is robbed of some PCs containing important campaign documents. Josie's "sister" Candace went and effed up, doing a press conference where she all but blames the competition, Senator Reston. Harrison scolds her harshly, but then the team finds the stolen computers. Yes, they're in Senator Reston's headquarters. Huck traced the IP or whatever fake TV Internet science. Prosecutor Rosen has his computer guys check around for files. Looks like nothing important was on the PC... and it was wiped a day before the robbery. All signs point to Candace, who folds like a house of cards as soon as they accuse. Olivia suggests Josie fire her sister/daughter Candace over it. Congresswoman Marcus calls a press conference and takes all the blame for the scam. She drops out of the race! Woah! This was a genuine surprise!

Fitz has Olivia flown out to a house in the middle of nowhere. I didn't catch the picture that the Secret Service agent used to convince her. It didn't really look like anything?? Some people walking. Anyway, she gets there and they do the dumb old dance from last week with the "You killed my mom!" and "That's classified!" flying back and forth. But then, woah, turns out this is the house he had built for them. He wanted her to see it just once before he sold it. They get nude and take the express train to the Bone Zone after a tasteful fade to black. Naturally, Mellie chooses now to try to reach Fitz. Since he and Olivia both don't answer any of their phones, Mellie figures out what's up and storms off. Anyway, Liv leaves after, and tells Fitz not to sell the house yet.

There's one last little thing in this twist-filled, excellent episode. Charlie has made Quinn a spy for B-613, using her against Olivia. She bungles it, of course, because she's Quinn, and Huck shows up for a late night visit, toolkit in tow. He knows! I think that makes I think double digits for my scandals count! The preview for next week promises torture. Oh... well... I'm not a fan of that! Anywho, I liked this episode and am looking forward to the winter finale in two weeks! Check out this preview below!
