Torch Report from AlenaFanjaya at dazeoffire:
Okay... here's my report (I finally finished it )Wow! I met my Papaya! The concert was amazing. So, now I have to write this report. I guess the best way to write it is to take ya’ll through the concert, from my point of view. So... I walked into the arena. We’ve been driving around for a long time, trying to find the place, so I’m a little irritable. That changes once I enter. God, this place is crowded! Outside the actual stage, there’s loads of pre-concert... stuff. When I walked in, the first thing I noticed was this karaoke thing set up. You know, crowd of crazy people cheering on a blonde woman singing, “I Will Survive,” Exciting. Let’s see, what else...? They were selling memorabilia, T-shirts and stuff, but the line was insane, so we didn’t buy anything (‘till later). Hmmm... they were also selling food and drinks and stuff. I bought a Dr Pepper, and went to find my seat. We had pretty bad seats, but, at least, I had a really good view of that screen where it shows what’s happening on stage. Before the concert, they had this ‘Get to Know Your Idols,’ thing. One Idol would come on the screen and ask a question about a fellow Idol. Whomever it was about would then come on the screen and answer it. When Sanjaya asked a question, something about Phil, I was screaming so loud that I had to ask the person next to me, “What was the question?” Ha.
Oh, speaking of the people next to me... I was sitting behind, like, ten “Blaker Girls,” (well, I’m pretty sure they were Blaker Girls, because they screamed for Blake, and barely applauded for anyone else). Right next to me, there were these two older women who didn’t seem to be fans of anyone. But, I guess they were so old they couldn’t very well scream for their favorites. One of them smiled at me when I started going wild for Sanjaya. Those where the people next to me, so... yeah. The arena was really big for a small town in Arkansas. I just had to point that out. Now you know the arena’s size, sorta...Anyway, the concert’s starting. A big voice booms, “Welcome to... the American Idol... live tour...” And, they started singing. Everyone came out, and sang, “Let’s Get It Started,” The performance wasn’t vocally amazing, but it was entertaining and pretty cool. They all sort of pranced around on the stage, it was really cute. I think it was a good song choice for an opener, I mean, come on, it’s called “Let’s Get It Started.”
Then, some of the other Idols did some songs, Sanji wasn’t in them. So, I don’t really need to talk about them (I sorta forgot about the songs that didn’t feature Sanjaya). Sanjaya’s next song was, “Proud Mary,” a duet with Melinda. It was excellent. In videos I’ve seen of past concerts, Melinda’s voice kind of covered up Sanjaya’s. But, I think, this time, he did a lot better. In this one part, he pulled off Melinda’s long, flowing, white dress, to reveal a shorter one. That was cool. Hmmm... at the end, Sanjaya said, “Give it up for the beautiful, talented, Melinda Doolittle!” (or something to that effect), and Melinda said, “And, give it up for the only guy with better hair than all my wigs!” (In Get to Know Your Idols, it was revealed that Melinda owns seven wigs). He does have great hair, doesn’t he? Yeah! Anyway, after his duet with Melinda, he sang “The Way You Make Me Feel,” and it was awesome! Dang, our Papaya can dance as well as sing!
Hmhmhmmm... there were some more songs, and then Sanjaya, Phil, and Chris Sligh came out on stage. First they started singing, “I Want it That Way,” and then ended up giving advice to people auditioning for Season 7. To quote Sanjaya, “It takes more than a good voice to make it on American Idol.” Someone a few rows behind me shouted, “It’s okay, Sanjaya!” Ha. Were they a Fanjaya, maybe?
Speaking of Fanjayas, I didn’t see anyone that was obviously a Fanjaya besides, of course me (I was wearing an orange shirt that says SANJAYA is my PAPAYA and I’m a FANJAYA because he sets this place on FIYAH! And, I ultimately went “Malakrazy,” for him. Soo... yeah, I was noticeably to others, a Fanjaya) and this guy who was wearing a shirt that said I’m a Philnatic and a Fanjaya. But, that was the only person who seemed to be a Fanjaya. That I could see, there were no signs or ponyhawks (besides mine, but it didn’t even really look like a ponyhawk) or anything! There were some people wearing orange, but...
Anyways, the concert! The order of their songs are kinda becoming a blur. I think, what came next was the guys singing, “Crazy,” and, “Hey Jude.” It was really cool. They started off with, “Crazy,” and kinda worked into “Hey Jude,” without missing a beat. It was an interesting combination, but I think the two songs blended really well together. I couldn’t particularly hear Sanjaya’s voice, and throughout the whole song, I think Phil’s singing stood out the most. Yeah.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think after that there was the intermission. Walking out of the room, I probably looked like a zombie/lunatic type person. I was so amazed by the awesomeness of Sanjaya and the other Idols, I could barely speak (that happened after I was about seventy-five feet from Sanjaya, you should’ve seen me after meeting him and being about two feet away from him, but more about that later...). Well, I recovered from my shock and had to go and buy a T-shirt and poster and of course more Dr Pepper and some popcorn, ha.
Well, then I went back to my seat. There were some other songs with other people, but I think the only one with Sanjaya was the group performance of, “Life is a Highway,” It was good. I don’t really have much to say about that one. It’s a good song, a good performance, and I liked it.
The concert was incredible, but meeting Sanjaya backstage was by far the most amazing thing that happened to me. The most amazing thing that day, that week, that month, that year, heck, it was the most amazing thing that happened to me in my whole life! When I got backstage, Jordin was the only one there. The other Idols trickled in for a few minutes, and finally, Sanjaya got there! I approach him, and my opening line? “Sanjaya... you’re my ‘Papaya!’” I don’t know what he thought of that, and I don’t think he knew either. He says, “Thanks...?” and smiles. Gosh, his teeth are, like, perfect! At first, I didn’t really know what to say, so I just smiled at him and he smiled at me and it was so magical (just like his eyes!) We just started talking, nothing really majorly important. I’ll fill ya’ll in on the details later. He hugged me five times and kissed me once (on the cheek). I went to talk to the other Idols after taking pictures with him and getting three autographs. When he was leaving, he saw me, and hugged me, and said, “Nice to meet you.” Aww... he said it so magically... ha. But, anyways. He hugged me and it was soo magical. I used to say that Ashley Ferl was the luckiest girl in the world, but now I think it might be me!
