I love this quite fiercely. Sam Bailey has been touted as a frontrunner since her first audition, and she's one of those rare contestants who's yet to lose steam since that very first audition. She's every bit as legit a contender now as she was when we first saw her, if not more so. Really, the performance wasn't a spectacle or anything, nor was the vocal full of all the huge notes we've come to expect from Sam Bailey, but I think the subdued, restrained nature of the performance made it all the more compelling. There aren't many contestants on any singing competition who can just stand there and sing, yet make it feel compellingly dramatic. Granted, this is a song that it's hard to do badly, yet it's just as difficult to truly do well. Most performances of this song end up feeling middle-of-the-road. But not this one.
