'Salem' Renewed for Season 2 by WGN America

WGN America's first foray into scripted drama has worked out pretty well, by all estimations, as Salem has become the network's most-watched broadcast in seven years. The premiere drew 1.5 million total viewers, with 650,000 of that total coming from the lucrative 18-34 demographic. So it's no surprise, then, that WGN America wants to keep the gravy train rolling.

Salem has been renewed for a second season of 13 episodes to air in 2015.

“[Co-creators/executive producers] Brannon Braga, Adam Simon, the talented cast and our great partners at Fox 21 have opened up an intriguing world that has captivated viewers,” Matt Cherniss, WGN America/Tribune Studios president and general manger, said in a statement. “We look forward to bringing more great storytelling, scares and surprises to viewers as the saga unfolds.”

Salem currently airs Sundays at 10/9c on WGN America. If I had to guess, I would suspect Season 2 will begin production later this year, possibly as early as this summer.
