'S.H.I.E.L.D.' pilot begins filming
ABC has hardly been shy about jumping on The Avengers bandwagon, ordering a series based on Marvel's Supreme Headquarters, International Espionage, Law-Enforcement Division, 'S.H.I.E.L.D.' (although the acronym would later be altered, in 1991, to the more obtuse Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate. Yeah, I don't really get it either).
The series, created by Avengers director and TV veteran Joss Whedon, began filming its pilot episode today in Los Angeles, and while the photos of the first day on set reveal very little in the way of actual information, these pics at least confirm that this series is actually happening, and isn't simply the far-reaching fever dreams of fanboys like me.

Here's Joss Whedon, looking at...something?

And hey! A pickup truck with the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo! Because nothing says "Espionage" like a gunmetal grey pickup truck.

And lastly, we have Joss Whedon's chair. Because the secrecy of this project is apparently limitless.

The series, likely premiering in the fall, will see Clark Gregg reprising his role as Agent Phil Coulson, a favorite among fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with which the series will share continuity. I'm not entirely sure how Coulson's presence is possible, given what happens in The Avengers, and also taking into account that this series takes place after the blockbuster film. But in the world of comic books, and their corresponding adaptations, all bets are off.
