Roger Ebert: 'I wasn't calling Ryan Dunn a jackass'

Roger Ebert I wasn t calling Ryan Dunn a jackass

Roger Ebert who is under fire from Ryan Dunn's fans, has written a blog post about it. He admits that he may have tweeted too quickly, but is not apologizing to anyone.

Earlier today, Facebook suspended his Facebook page, but it has since been restored.

From Roger Ebert:

Facebook has removed my page in response, apparently, to malicious complaints from one or two jerks. http://t.co/RdzUxll

Facebook! My page is harmless and an asset to you. Why did you remove it in response to anonymous jerks? Makes you look bad.

My new blog entry, just posted: "Friends don't let friends drink and drive." http://bit.ly/lXVGno

Thank you, Facebook. My page is back online.

I really think Roger Ebert is missing the point of the outrage against him. He thinks Ryan Dunn's fans are a bunch of "jackasses" just like Ryan. Ryan just died one day ago -- and his fans are still grieving! If Brad Pitt died in the same manner, I am sure his reaction would be different.

Roger Ebert should just say what he truly means instead of going around the Internet saying he's being targeted unfairly by "out of control" fans. What he's saying is: "Ryan Dunn deserved to die because of his actions." With less than 48 hours after Ryan's death, what reaction did Roger Ebert expect? A medal for stating the obvious (at least right now) that Ryan died because he was intoxicated?

And yes, I do think he meant to call Ryan a 'jackass' in his initial Tweet. It was an attempt at humor blown out of proportion because of bad timing on Twitter.
