Rodney To and Sides: The Fear is Real...
Tita Cris brought Robert and I to a play called Sides: The Fear is Real by Mr. Miyagi's Theatre Company, presented by Ma-Yi Theatre Company. The play is made up of short sketches of disastrous auditions and interviews, presumably experienced by the cast, brought to the extremes. I was thoroughly entertained, specially with Rodney To's send up to the Filipino theatre auteur, Ding Ding, and Cindy Cheung, who's many roles include an Asian casting director with a perky Southern accent playing a battered white woman living in a trailer park (ooo I can so relate to this! Mention, trailer park and I'm in.) If you are in New York this week, I highly recommend this show, now playing in P.S. 122 (which used to be a public school, now very intimate theater). Check out times, dates and directions here. We have to go see this! We need to take a picture of Rodney!
