Rock Star: INXS - The Bold Prediction
The dilemma facing INXS is that they must hire a new lead singer from this carefully casted group of singers. It should be clear to them by now that they will not get the perfect lead when all is said and done. This must scare the hell out of them.
I assume that when you form a band, all of you start out as friends. You might break up in the future, but there was some connection in the very beginning that got you started. That's obviously not present with their new lead singer. However, I think INXS will do themselves a disservice if they choose mainly on personality. They've "interviewed" many "nice" people, but nobody gets hired for a job by simply being nice. You have to fit the job description.
Among those remaining, it's quite simply: J.D. Fortune. He might have some issues with his personality, but among this crop of singers, his looks and edginess is the best fit. Moreover, some band members have expressed that they actually like him, so his cockiness is almost like a non-issue. I think they may have been looking for a combination of J.D. and MiG (the nice guy) but that person is a figment of our imagination. In the end, you'll never know how J.D. would turn out should he get chosen, but that is the same for the rest of the finalists too.
Marty Casey, amazing as he has become, unfortunately won't be
leading INXS to "strange new worlds" of music. He's just outnumbered,
and I don't think INXS will be hiring someone who wants to lead them somewhere
else musically. They're staying put with what they know best. Marty's a
bigger risk compared to J.D. although he would be perfect for another band. (The similarities between Marty-mania and Constantine-mania are uncanny. -- Are you guys the same people??? Hahaha. Who in the next season of American Idol will you pounce on next!)
MiG Ayesa, sexy as he is, just isn't a rock star. He's a great performer, but not a lead singer for a rock band. You can only take off your shirt so many times -- okay, that not exactly true, but I do have other points... His set last night reminded me of a Broadway show. He could headline a revival of Jesus Christ: Superstar no doubt. To borrow a quote from the So You Can Think You Can Dance judges: you can't fake technique. The other three are naturally rock, while MiG tries to be. The cracks are finally out in the open. I sense that INXS wanted so much for MiG Ayesa to work, him being from Australia, but he's just not right for our band INXS.... hahaha.
Suzie McNeil, I think has a legitimate shot, and in fact is less risky than Marty or MiG. If J.D. is really as evil as he is portrayed to be on the show and INXS have reservations about this, I think they will pick Suzie. However, I honestly don't think this will be a factor, and J.D. Fortune simply trumps Suzie McNeil. I hope she finds work somewhere because she is very earnest.
So there you have it. Check back with me next week.
