Robin Williams Checks Into Rehab

Robin Williams has checked into rehab. But not for the reasons you might think.

The Oscar winner hasn't lapsed from his sobriety. Quite the opposite, in fact. He's checked into rehab for continued sobriety, a preventative measure to reinforce his wellness.

"After working back-to-back projects, Robin is simply taking the opportunity to fine-tune and focus on his continued commitment, of which he remains extremely proud," his representative told HuffPost.

Williams is currently at Hazelden Addiction Treatment Center in Minnesota, participating in a program that is focused on maintaining long-term sobriety. He will remain in this program for several weeks before being discharge, hopefully with a renewed dedication to his sobriety.

The 62-year-old actor's struggle with substance abuse is well-documented, and dates back to the early 1980s. He's been open in the past about his problems with cocaine and alcohol addiction, and even entered rehab in 2006 for alcoholism after relapsing following 20 years of sobriety. Williams admitted that battling addiction isn't something you can do on your own, even though you might think you can.

"But you can't. That's the bottom line," he said. "You really think you can, then you realize, I need help, and that's the word ... It's hard admitting it, then once you've done that, it's real easy."

Williams had been working on his latest project, the third movie in the Night at the Museum franchise, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb. The film is due out later this year.

We wish Mr. Williams all the best in his continued sobriety.
