Rickey, the Quasi
I started working from home last January and I've been having issues. I needed to change things up, and since I'm not stressed with American Idol now, I finally went to the New York Main Library last Friday to "work from home away from home". I brought my MacBook Pro and used the free Internet access on the 3rd Floor. Amazingly, surrounded by a lot of people, I was not distracted! I got some work done. Yay. I'm very happy. I should do this a couple of times a week. The only drawbacks are: carrying the computer (and the Nikon camera) around the city. Hopefully my back gets used to it. And: no cellphone use in the library. I might just sit down in Bryant Park al fresco and use the wireless access there. And/or look for another hangout with Internet access for a different day of the week.
Since the Main Library is close to Times Square, I decided to give the "In the Heights" ticket lottery another go. After "In the Heights" won the Tony for Best Musical, the good seats have been sold out on Ticketmaster. I would gladly pay full price to watch it, but then not on the far left or right or up. I realized that probably the best seats that I can avail of right now are the front row lottery. So anyway... I lined up again (I did not win last Wednesday). The lottery tickets are drawn at 6 PM, and you have to put your name in the bucket between 5:30 - 6 PM in front of the theater. So there I was waiting for the first name to be called, when this guy calls from behind me: "You're Rickey right? My wife reads your blog." Aaaaaa! Omigosh, what do I do? So I smiled and waved at his wife (I think) who was in line at the box office. And then the man said, "You're famous, you quasi..." And I just smiled because I did not know what to say and was kinda confused -- I was also attempting Jedi-mindtricks on the lady so she pulls my name out of the bucket and my backpack was bumping everyone (it's huge) -- it was weird.
But... I didn't win again, and the wife-fan walked away without talking to me, and my backpack was still huge, so I decided to walk a few blocks to get some BBQ from Daisy May's. The beef brisket wasn't too good. And apparently, I am still craving for grilled pork belly dipped in vinegar. Walking back to the subway, I saw two "In the Heights" groupies waiting for their Playbills to be signed before the show by Lin-Manuel Miranda and the cast -- cute!
And so I've decided to make this a bit of project. I will line up for every "In the Heights" lottery until I friggin' get it. Hahaha. Obviously, I have the time (LOL), but I think it's an interesting experiment. Will I ever win? Can I actually beat the odds with persistence or is it hopeless? Good luck to me! Yay!
