Rickey Goes To The Movies
First off, I'm feeling a bit spaced out right now, so my planned redesign is running terribly late. I have however begun the process of making studies for a new logo, so I have not completely neglected it. I can't however resist writing anymore, so here I am writing, even if this URL is supposed to be for Fantasia Barrino related things (http://www.rickey.org/blog).
Spider-Man 2 has been getting such strong early reviews that I bought a ticket for the opening on Wednesday. I think that's going to be big. Nothing like good reviews to get people interested. (Michael Moore should know after last weekend. And Fahrenheit 9/11 was indeed pretty entertaining -- I watched it today). I was a bit worried that Spider-Man 2 might be steam-rolled by Shrek 2 this Summer, but it looks like Spidey will be on top when the season is over. In the past year and half I've become a Spider-Man fan, buying about 6-8 of his comic book titles every month. I actually think his power's kinda creepy, but the character is great. So basically, I can't wait til Wednesday.
There are also some movies that I watched a couple of weeks ago that I have not been able to write about, but might as well now. First off: Kill Bill Vol. 2. Man was I reeling after watching this one. I think it took me an entire week to recover, and the first few days were so distressful. Only for those with strong stomachs, and apparently I'm not one of them. I did however appreciate it, but it will take me a while before I watch it again.
Secondly, by the wisdom of the Patronus Light, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban simply rocked. I just love the Harry Potter series now, even if my *favorite*, Draco Malfoy, has been reduced to comic relief. Sigh. We hope to get our revenge in the next movie...
And finally, City of God. After Kill Bill Vol. 2, the violence in this once was pretty much tame. Actually its a different type of violence, but I wasn't too disturbed. I was actually quite relieved that it wasn't any worse. But it's a pretty darn good movie, and I just love the amateur-actor independent films in the mold of Raising Victor Vargas.
Did I really say anything about these movies? Nothing really. But I noticed that I would only write about the movies I actually liked to a degree. So in other words, I've actually watched a little more than these but didn't care to write about the rest because they kinda sucked.
So maybe next time some actual reviews eh?
P.S. I have started a Tagalog-only blog called Salin Gugel. I recently joined the Google in Your Language volunteer program and blogging in the mother tongue has been good practice. I'm so terrible though. I think I have not written anything in Tagalog formally since High School.
