Rickey Addresses Your Sanjaya Malakar Obsession

Dear Random Commenter No. 1, 2 & 3:

Guys just stop it. Your obsession with Sanjaya Malakar has now clouded your thinking. It is unhealthy. I don't know what advice to give so that you can channel this negative energy into something positive, but clearly the amount of time and energy people have invested in Sanjaya Malakar over here is incredible.

Sanjaya Malakar is amazing. He has done nothing to merit the kind of hate and ridicule that some of us have unleashed on him here. He has not been busted for cocaine, beat his girlfriend or sister, posed nude or stolen anything -- the types of stuff Idols in the past have done which were met with fan fury. One of the reasons that Sanjaya's presence on American Idol has become some sort of a phenom is because from the get go, he has shown that he is willing to roll with the inevitable punches. Any lesser being would have quit a long time ago. He had no qualms about breaking down on camera, and certainly no complaints about being dressed up by stylists every week. Unlike Haley Scarnato, who cried at the first sign she might have blown it. Or Chris Sligh, who attacked Simon unprovoked as early as the first voting show. Sanjaya Malakar has been quietly communing with his fans, and we are rolling with the punches along with him.

Votefortheworst isn't keeping Sanjaya Malakar on the show. His fans are. Remember, VFTW supported Sundance Head and Antonella Barba -- and WOW, their influential voting block couldn't even get them into the Top 12. They couldn't even get Antonella past Haley Scarnato! And who's voting for Haley? Sanjaya Malakar fans without any help from VFTW were able to get Sanjaya into the Top 12 on our own and head-to-head vs. Sundance at that -- that's VFTW PLUS the real Sundance fans -- so think about that before you declare that this is all a joke from VFTW or Howard Stern. There are a lot of real Sanjaya fans out there, and we want to see Sanjaya every week for as long as we can. We are very selfish fans just like you, and if you can't stand the fact that we actually like Sanjaya, then that is your loss. People like people for different reasons, so just deal with it.

And if you've actually been reading rickey.org over the past three years, you should know by now that you don't have to be the American Idol to win. Ace Young is thriving, Elliott Yamin is thriving, Clay Aiken is thriving, Chris Daughtry is thriving, Katharine McPhee is thriving. rickey.org is the sanctuary for those who don't win American Idol. Who else would get excited over Anthony Fedorov appearing on Broadway? Or Constantine Maroulis landing a stint in the Bold and the Beautiful? (Hahaha -- finally got to sneak that in there! Go CCG!) Sanjaya Malakar is just so up our alley, I am amazed some people still don't get it. And even if rickey.org peeps don't agree with me, they still understand and don't hate-monger.

And yes, American Idol is a singing competition -- they're obviously singing aren't they? But it's gone past that a long long time ago. It is a popularity contest, using singing and mostly image as a basis for voting. It may not be obvious, but American Idol veterans -- and in particular, those who actually vote -- know this. If you want Sanjaya out of the show so badly, my expert advice is to root for a couple of other Idols and make sure that they get more votes than Sanjaya. That's the only way to get someone off the show. Bringing down Sanjaya is like shouting at a wall. (I can't believe I'm giving you tips after all the bad things you have said about sweet Sanjaya!)

Also, if Sanjaya is so offensive, then simply turn off the TV when Sanjaya is on -- or simply turn off American Idol altogether since there's no one else on the show that you're waiting to see is there? Or else, you would be talking about them and not Sanjaya. That's quite obvious. Was that too harsh? Sorry to hurt anyone's feelings.

You are obsessed with Sanjaya. I thought I'd remind you before you start spewing hate all-over the place again.

Go Sanjaya. Save Sanjaya Malakar!

Love,
Rickey
