Revolution - Season 2 Episode 8 - Recap - Come Blow Your Horn

Revolution - Season 2 Episode 8 - Recap - Come Blow Your Horn

NBC's Revolution brings us another installment this week, following up on last week's myriad revelations and set-ups. A lot of it revolves around this season's new villain, Dr. Horn. Dr. Horn origin story time! In addition to learning that the bad doctor is a drug addict this week, we also see him 18 years before the global blackout that forms the central conflict of the post-apocalyptic action series. We see that Horn's mom had gotten very sick, and dumb Daddy Horn thought that praying would fix it. Mom dies, but Horn at least tried to save her with medication. Dad slaps him for it when Horn says there are no miracles. Anyway, on to main plots now!

True to form, Miles is punching a guy a lot, looking for Dr. Horn. Meanwhile, the Patriots are stoking the flames against Miles, with the help of Rachel's dad. They're blaming Miles for all the violence so far. Charlie spies this clandestine meeting and relates the events to Rachel. Charlie thinks Rachel should be forgiving, since Grandpa is only working with the Patriots to protect the family. Regardless, the mother daughter pair gets set to making some chemical weapons. A classic family activity. Miles provides sniper coverage (with an assist from Charlie) while Rachel sneaks her gas bomb into the Patriot base. Then, a snag in the plan, and Rachel's dad shows up. Miles calls off the mission, but Rachel proceeds anyway. Cold, Rach, cold. Miles and Charlie then see Aaron and Cynthia brought in, and Miles manages to stop Rachel barely in time. Plan B: Kidnap dad! Miles, Charlie, and Rachel gag and bag the guy, then take him for interrogation. The Patriots find where they're hiding, and the group sends Gene out to negotiate. He buys them about two seconds when he pulls a knife on the squadron leader, then bullets start to fly. The rest of the crew escapes out the back.

As per last week, Aaron and Monroe team up! While they're waiting to travel by night, Aaron's ladyfriend Cynthia confronts him about using his fire superpowers to kill her ex-husband. He didn't do it on purpose, but she's still really mad about it. Monroe insists the crew heads out, but Patriot resistance is encountered immediately, and Cynthia is captured! Aaron's captured too. Dr. Horn wants to find out how Aaron's healing powers work, so he starts torturing the crap outta him. Horn reveals to Aaron that the doctor is suffering a brain tumor. The next phase of the experiment is to test his defensive capability, triggered by emotional trauma. The doctor has some guards bring in Cynthia, then he leaves and one of them puts a knife in her.

Neville shows up at a Patriot camp with a diamond ring. Tom meets with his injured escort Justine's husband Roger, making some demands and then taking the man off to see the woman who owns this diamond ring. Jason was left to guard Justine, and some of his programming kicks back in when she annoys him. He tries to choke her, but is horrified once he stops himself. Tom and Roger are just about to arrive when the man turns on Tom like a dummy. Tom talks him down, saying that Roger and Justine would have nowhere to go even if he did kill Tom and just take her. Once Roger and Tom get inside, the reunion is brief. Roger kills Justine for her betrayal and leaves, presumably just as Tom had hoped he would. I like Tom. I like watching him scheme. I'm glad he's got one of the big plots this season!

This was a decent installment. Lots of action, but another cliffhanger ending! I'm not big on cliffhanger endings where nothing happens. I like the ones where a big, crazy event happens, like a character death, but not ones like this where a bunch of stuff is all happening right up until the smash cut to black, but we don't know what actually will end up happening. Otherwise, it's all solid work! Check out the preview below!
