Revolution - Season 2 Episode 7 - Recap - The Patriot Act

NBC's Revolution is back again, naturally, and picks up right where last week left off, front-loading the episode's action something fierce. ,Hey, Monroe is alive, shock of the century. The real shock here is that it seems as if Rachel is the one who saved him. The main crew, Charlie and Rachel and Miles, greet the groggy psychopath as he awakens. Aaron and his ladyfriend are out for a nice walk when a big explosion rocks their newly Patriot-occupied town. The devastation is sickening. Limbs missing, blood and screaming everywhere. It seems like the Patriots aren't in on the boom, which I found odd. The town gets put into lockdown.

Rachel has been tracked down by an old colleague named Dr. Horn, a man who is now the President's senior science adviser. He knows about her work before the blackout, and also about the kablooey Aaron caused with the nanobots. He seems to think Rachel is involved somehow, but as we know, it's Aaron. Dr. Horn calls in Rachel's dad to ask some questions about Aaron, what with his whole resurrection thing. Horn suspects Rachel did the resurrecting, but Dad denies this. After a well-placed threat, he outs Aaron. The bad guy crew heads out to intercept Aaron's flight from town, but he's not there. Miles and Rachel had suspicions, now confirmed. Aaron's escape plan has been changed, thankfully. Everyone is scrambling now, desperate to get Aaron out through the sewers. Aaron and Cynthia are found upon their exit by some Patriots, but rescued by a very confused Monroe. Monroe runs off as more troops arrive, and in the stress, Aaron lights these ones on fire as he had done in the past. It seems like his new-found powers are triggered by intense emotion.

We're shown a flashback from years before, just seven years after the blackout, where Rachel's dad received a gift from a mysterious dude: Modern medicine. Back in modern times, Rachel's dad is on hand while some soldiers waterboard the heck out of a suspect. He tells them it's gone too far, but they tell him there's more medicine for more diseases. Looks like he's been at this all this time! Rachel is devastated when she and Miles find out, but if he survives at all, it doesn't seem likely that Dad will stay with the Patriots after all they've done.

Jason wakes up on the floor to his father's words. Jason claims to be okay now, and Tom believes him, but their ex-Patriot companion doesn't buy it. They proceed with caution when a noise is heard outside, Jason kept silent by the threat of death. Just as they think the coast is clear, shooting starts. Jason goes turncoat (or seems to) just as suspected. He gives the all clear, and Tom finds his son standing over the bloodied corpses of two other brainwashed kids from the reprogramming center, holding a pair of scissors. That's like five twists in a row!

A good episode! Lots of mysteries! I'm hoping this season can provide a good payoff for all the plates it has spinning right now. Few shows manage to follow through on promises this big! Still, even if it doesn't, the Neville family has a fairly grounded story that has little to no risk of dissatisfying. I know that one will be good for as long as it lasts, and for right now, Aaron's superpowers are an exciting mystery! Check out this preview below.
