Revolution - Season 2 Episode 6 - Recap - Dead Man Walking

NBC's Revolution is back again, picking right up where we left off! Miles (aka Stu) and Monroe (aka everyone's best pal Bas) are in the middle of building their fake-out crime scene so as to frame the Patriots for the murder of a Texas Ranger. Monroe straight-up murdered the dude last episode, with this cockamamie plan in mind. The Patriots find the body and take the bait... or do they??

Tom Neville continues his journey to the reprogramming center and, hopefully, his son. He's still got the wounded Patriot lady with him. They come across some trainees in a training exercise, Tom's son Jason among them. Jason unloads a clip without even a glimmer of recognition in his eyes. Tom's "friend" says she went through the same thing with her son and that Jason will never stop. The do end up trapping Jason after a big fight, though. He awakens tied up. He knows his father, but still is all programming. Jason wants Dad dead! I'm digging this new dynamic. Turning these two against one another in a new way keeps a classic struggle but infuses it with new life.

Rachel and Charlie are having a fight. Then again, Rachel and everyone are having a fight. She's mad that Monroe has joined their little group. Shouldn't be a problem for much longer, since Texas and the Patriots have teamed up and found Big Bad Bas hiding out! I guess his little plan didn't work out so well! Miles suspects Rachel of turning him in. She didn't, but she did tell the authorities to move him in case of jailbreaks. Rachel is determined to see Monroe pay for his crimes, which is totally reasonable so I don't get why Miles and Charlie are so mad at her about it!

Monroe gets a lot of screen time this episode. As explanation for why he became such an evil jerk, there's a flashback plot about Monroe losing his wife during the birth of their child (who also died). As we learned last season, though, he has another child. After being sentenced to death for his crimes (that's Texas for ya), Monroe calls for Miles and asks him to care for this second secret kid. Turns out, Miles not only knows about this secret son, but has kept the kid hidden from Bas all this time. Anyway, lethal injection time arrives eihtout further incident. Everybody is there! Rachel dad is the doctor doing the prep, and he is way too psyched about it. Rachel is there. The Patriots, the Rangers. Also some reporter that Aaron met earlier in the episode (she gets a weird amount of screen time). You know, everybody. Well, actually, Aaron Charlie, and Miles wait outside instead. Aaand... They do it! They execute Monroe! I'm honestly surprised that the show went through with it! After the continual bloodbath that was last season, with Monroe seemingly the only untouchable character, I expected he'd never die. Anyway, in the aftermath, we learn that Rachel's dad turned over Monroe! Reasonable, since Monroe did all that genocide last season. Weirdly, Rachel starts digging up Monroe grave right at the end of the episode... And also Monroe is in the preview for next week... WELL.

This was a good episode, but the preview for it kind of spoiled some of the fun, same as the preview for next week seems to be giving away too much. If Monroe does indeed survive this ordeal, I'm going to be disappointed. One of the most frustrating things about the first season was how Monroe was dead to rights a dozen times over and just never got killed. The show was so good about making the audience feel as if no character is safe, but keeping Monroe alive so long has somewhat shattered that illusion. Bring back the body count! Anyway, if you'd read this far, spoilers probably don't scare you, so check out the preview for next week below!
