Revolution - Season 2 Episode 5 - Recap - One Riot, One Ranger

NBC brings us another installment of their blackout drama Revolution. We get a bit more on the season-long Aaron nanobot story arc, and also some on the Patriots (the newly-returned American government). The lights are still off, but the fallout (sometimes literally) from last season's brief on switch are still running throughout.

Monroe and Charlie sneak about outside Willoughby (the town where the main cast is hanging out), with Monroe (shockingly) encouraging caution rather than hotheadedness. Charlie does sneak in to make contact with her Uncle Miles though. She leads him off to meet up with Monroe. Tensions obviously run high, but nobody gets shot and Miles grudgingly agrees to work with Monroe. They're sneaking around backwoods, but still get seen by distant American scouts. A nighttime gunfight ensues! Our heroes win, taking a captive. A meetup with a Texas Ranger is arranged, only to be crashed by Rachel, who puts everybody on the other end of a big ol' machine gun. Charlie talks her down and everybody gets out of the room in time for the bad guys to come for the meet. Unfortunately, the Patriot they captured killed himself good and dead. The Ranger is talking about how a peace treaty is about to be signed when Monroe steps in and blows a hole through the guy! Oh no!!

Meanwhile, Aaron goes to Miles (aka Stu) and Rachel with his theory about the nanotech and how Aaron totes used it to light some bad guys on fire last episode. They don't much believe it, but they haven't got any choice in the matter, since they're almost immediately interrupted by more pressing things. The Texas Rangers show up in town, opposing the Patriots. A gunfight is avoided, but negotiations go barely better than that. The Texans are bristly, so of course they know Miles. Miles wants to work with Texas to push out the Americans.

After the distraction provided by the Rangers, Aaron packs up and leaves town. He keeps flashing back to when he first met his ladyfriend Cynthia, when he'd become a teacher in Willoughby. She'd had a violent, unbalanced man as her husband at the time. Clearly sad times for undead Aaron. Rachel tracks him down to a boatyard, apparently a spot he enjoys to come think. They chat about the nanobot stuff, with Aaron revealing that the nanobot fire had happened once prior, that Aaron had killed Cynthia's bad husband without trying to!! I guess this takes its toll, because Aaron passes out. He saw... something. He's not saying! I suppose we'll have to wait until next week.

Even more meanwhile, Tom Neville's settlement is managing a migration. Luckily, he's leaving to be a part of his superior's security detail on her trip to Washington, DC. Unluckily, they're accosted on the way and get gunned at. The battle is brief, and after, Tom helps get a bullet out of his lady superior. The migration we'd seen is actually a move to a reprogramming center, a move she'd opposed. This explains the attack. Tom takes her for a traitor and is about to leave her when she reveals that Tom's son Jason has been taking to this reprogramming center. She promises to take him there if she'll save his life, and he gets back to digging for bullets in her sidemeat.

This week's episode was cool, but I wish there was more going on! The season's plots get so much time this week that there isn't even room for the episode to be about anything else. I like that we're getting movement on those plots, though. I'm excited to see the conflict with the Patriots come to a head, and to find out why Aaron has super nanobot powers.
