Revolution - Season 2 Episode 13 - Recap - Happy Endings

NBC's Revolution is about to go on a break for NBC's Olympics presentation, so they give us a really solid episode beforehand. The post-electric sci-fi series has been a bit unfocused lately, but now the plots are starting to finally coalesce nicely.

Grandpa Gene is still sick, and now he's not even breathing. Luckily, just as Conner's hostage situation seems like it might go south, it goes exactly how he planned when Monroe's sniper cover kills one guy and intimidates the others into surrender. Conner brings the medicine for Gene and the whole party gets the Hell out of Dodge, so to speak. The party splits up again, with Conner, Monroe, and Charlie heading back to "New Vegas", which tells me that the writers either have never played the video game Fallout: New Vegas (about a post-apocalyptic Las Vegas, the setting not unlike this show), or they are just unabashedly ripping off the name. Anyway, Bret Michaels is there, guest starring as himself and playing his own songs (acoustic, naturally). I don't know why. He's on camera for all of two seconds. So, there's that. Monroe's got to convince an old friend help him get a militia together for a war with the Patriots. In order to pay for the mercs, though, Monroe's got to head back into the fighting pit where he started the season to form a distraction so that Charlie and Conner can steal a bunch of diamonds. It's a very convoluted plan, but it works. There's some fancy lock box swapping and distracting, but everyone gets out just fine... almost. Monroe gets really messed up in the fighting pit when he's got to go up against a guy about twice his mass, then he meets up with Conner and the two get caught with the diamond lockbox. Crud! And now they're taking their Olympics break, too! Double crud!

In 'shipping news, the show is trying really hard to convince us that Charlie and Conner should pair off. They sleep together, with Charlie instigating it and acting fully nihilistic. Monroe catches them afterwhile, whish is hilarious. Back at the other camp, Miles and Rachel finally consummate their decades-long flirtation. This is the smoochiest episode yet! The whole season might even get smoochier, once Aaron and Priscilla get back together.

Tom Neville is having a bad day. He's having the bad day of all bad days. Pulled from a dungeon, tortured half to death, Tom must now answer to the villain behind it all: The President of the United States of America. The President offers Tom a glass of water and the two have a cordial chat. Tom turns on his charm and his lies, but Mr. President stops him. Julia has supposedly already told all there is to tell about the pair of them. The President has orders for Tom, and now we see how the season's disparate plots will come together: Tom is going to travel to Texas and assassinate Sebastian Monroe. Tom and Jason find Rachel and Miles and Gene, sowing some lie about how Tom wants revenge. I mean, I'm sure he does want revenge, but more than that, he wants his wife to survive her captivity. Which means Monroe has to die (again).

Aaron and Priscilla end up at their destination, meeting up with an old colleague named Peter, who is somehow involved with all the nanotech weirdness. There's a weird church where Peter preaches and heals. He's been somehow using the nanotech to heal even the most grievous physical injuries, thinking it is God's power answering his prayers. Peter locks Aaron and Priscilla in their room that night, though. He accuses them of "bearing false witness", and doesn't want the pair to destroy everyone's faith. Reasonable, but he could've just like... asked. I'm sure A & P would keep the nanotech biz on the down-low if Peter just asked 'em to. Oh well!

Revolution was pretty good this week! Weird cameo aside, every plot felt like it was coming together and doing really cool stuff. Seeing Tom meet up with Miles and Rachel again was really stressful and nice, especially knowing that he's lying through his teeth to them. He's such an excellent villain! Here's the preview!
